Toad in a Hole

Miracles 1

Today during my pondering it came to me that I’ve been focusing on the wrong things. I am seeing the negative of the photographic image rather than the positive. I seem to have gotten lost trying to make a reality out of the theories of quantum physics. I found myself trying to imagine the wholeness and oneness of everything in the spaces between, whilst fixating on the individual atoms. I’ve been trying to measure everything by the singular oneness instead of seeing the oneness of the full picture.

Then, this revelation came to me. Life is like a ‘Toad in the Hole’ meal. I have fond memories of my Mom making this dish when I was a child.

It suddenly dawned on me that I have been narrowly viewing life around me by the singular contributions of random individuals in my world. This is similar to giving the sausages all the credit for the ‘Toad-in-the-Hole’ dish. The dish would not be what it is without the yummy batter that holds it all together. To focus on each individual sausage would be to miss the entire gastronomic taste sensation.

Suddenly my gastro juices started flowing and many different recipes were flooding my mind. I likened my newfound theory to choc chip cookies and rock buns which were another firm favourite from my past.

Similarly, a rock bun is not equal to the sum total of raisins in the mix. A rock bun is what it is because of the whole range of ingredients that make up the batter, i.e. flour, sugar, eggs, butter, water and raisins. Without the core ingredients we wouldn’t have the glue that holds it altogether. Without the batter we would just have a handful of raisins.

Ok, by now I’ve probably got your tummy groaning, but before you dash off and smash some food down your throat, I hope to leave this thought with you for the week ahead.

We are not defined exclusively by our physical bodies. We are part of something so much bigger than that. Our greatness lies in disinvesting in our separatist thinking and expanding our vision to the realisation that we are the sum total of all our parts. We are one dish with all of humanity. We are one big cake or curry or whatever dish your particular mood favours this morning. Focus big, not small. Focus on the dish, not a particular ingredient. Don’t be a lonesome ‘toad’ in a hole. Expand your vision and see how that changes your experience with the world this week.

Have a wonderful week allowing your palette to teach you oneness.

All my love
